Country: Papua New Guinea Source: UN Country Team in Papua New Guinea Please refer to the attached file. The response is ongoing across Milne Bay Province, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, and parts of East and West New Britain, under the coordination of the National Disaster Centre through the National Emergency Operations Centre (NDC‑NEOC). In Bougainville, a State of Emergency has been declared, with significant humanitarian impacts reported, including confirmed fatalities and a large number of people in urgent need of life‑saving assistance. Initial Damage Assessments are being mobilised across affected areas, with government authorities and partners working jointly to establish the scale of needs and prioritise response actions. In East and West New Britain Provinces, while no formal requests for support have been made to date, partners have been deployed in partnership with NDC‑NEOC to support initial assessments and ongoing monitoring. In Milne Bay Province, the commencement of Initial Damage Assessments and immediate response has been delayed. Fuel for vessels and food rations to accompany assessment teams are immediate gaps, as these are essential to enable assessments to proceed alongside the delivery of life‑saving assistance to affected island and coastal communities. Humanitarian partners are encouraged to coordinate response actions with the UNHAT Disaster Management Team (DMT), co‑located at NEOC. Partners intending to dispatch immediate life‑saving relief supplies, and those requiring logistics support, are requested to liaise with the DMT, in coordination with NEOC, to ensure alignment with national priorities and coordinated delivery.
