Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected between 28–30 April 2026 anti9cipated to trigger flash floods across the haor basin in northeastern Bangladesh, particularly in Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Netrokona. An estimated 3 million people are at risk, including 1.5 million women, young children, older persons, and women with disabilities. The floods are likely to coincide with the peak boro rice harvest, threatening livelihoods, food security, and household incomes in an already climate-vulnerable region. Women and girls face disproportionate risks due to entrenched gender inequalities, limited access to early warning information, restricted mobility, unpaid care burdens, and reduced access to assets, services, and decision-making. Without gender-responsive anticipatory action, flash floods can heighten protection risks such as gender-based violence, unsafe shelter conditions, poor access to WASH and menstrual health services, and disrupted health care for pregnant and lactating women. Gender-responsive preparedness and response are critical to protect lives, dignity, and livelihoods. Prioritizing women-led organizations, inclusive early warning dissemination, safe shelters, and targeted support for the most at-risk groups can significantly strengthen community resilience ahead of floods. Considering that, Gender in Humanitarian Action Working group (GiHA) has developed the ‘Gender Alert’ on the Anticipated Northeastern Flash Flood. The Gender alert is produced based on the data from Bangladesh Population Risk Profile Dashboard, NAWG report, and information collected from the Sylhet and Sunamgonj local GiHA chapters.
