KEY HIGHLIGHTS WFP began shifting its cash assistance to Unified Cash Transfers, building on existing support and giving greater flexibility to beneficiaries to meet essential needs. In April, WFP provided food boxes to almost 157,000 people in seven frontline regions. Meanwhile, where markets function, almost 132,000 people received approximately USD 5.3 million in cash assistance. Under the Food from Ukraine initiative, the first shipment to South America—comprising 3,000 mt of wheat—is set to be delivered to Bolivia. SITUATION OVERVIEW Drone and missile strikes increasingly disrupt systems and cause civilian and humanitarian impacts beyond the frontlines, damaging energy, transport, port, and critical water infrastructure. In Kyiv city, WFP’s outsourced call center building was damaged from a missile strike that occurred in close proximity. To ensure continuity of services, hotline operations have been shifted to operate remotely. Southern airstrikes are increasingly focused on the port and logistics infrastructure, particularly along the Danube corridor, indicating a deliberate effort to disrupt supply chains and humanitarian access routes. Chornomorsk and Izmail ports were struck multiple times, including impacts on foreign flagged civilian vessels transiting the Grain Corridor. Heavy fighting continues in eastern and southern fronts (Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy). Pressure along the Sumy region border significantly increased reportedly with no credible risk for encirclement of Sumy city. Cooperating partners (CPs) increasingly rely on WFP support for last-mile deliveries as security worsens and frontline access is restricted. On 22 April, a drone struck a CP Peaceful of Heaven of Kharkiv (PHK) bread delivery truck in Kherson region, injuring the driver and damaging the truck.
