Countries: Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda Source: Inter-Agency Standing Committee 9 June 2026 The Emergency Relief Coordinator has activated an IASC System-Wide Scale-Up for the Control of Infectious Disease Events, with immediate effect and for an initial period of three months. The activation targets DRC. IASC Principals endorsed that the Scale-Up activation focuses on the following four strategic priorities: Strengthened and coordinated political engagement (with DRC, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda) to secure unimpeded movement of humanitarian personnel and supplies for the humanitarian response, including the health response to the Ebola outbreak; Reinforced, unified humanitarian coordination under the DSRSG/RC/HC, with WHO directing and coordinating the technical aspects of the event related to human health, while integrating the Ebola component into existing coordination structures to enable a coherent, multi-sectoral response beyond health; Lessons learned from previous Ebola responses, including: national and local ownership (such as building on the ongoing efforts of frontline organizations); engaging communities from the onset and throughout the response to foster acceptance and risk communication; firmly anchoring PSEAH at the center of the response; and ensuring the Ebola outbreak control contributes to strengthening national capacities and structures; and Balanced funding and advocacy for the broader humanitarian response.
